The Museum of the American Indian is excited to announce A Vanishing Race: The 150th Birthday of Edward S. Curtis. Curtis realized that the cultures of the Native Peoples were under attack by white encroachment and an uncaring US Government and sought to document Native cultures in photographs and wax recordings. A Vanishing Race: The 150th Birthday of Edward S. Curtis showcases Curtis' efforts while pointing out his errors with omitting how Natives were adapting to life in the United States and his perpetration of the idea of the 'Nobel Savage.'
